Republican Women Ask AL Pols to Stop Saying "Bah, Humbug" to Alabama's Immigration Law

TUSCALOOSA, Ala., Dec. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "The Christmas season is about giving, not taking away," the president of the Alabama Federation of Republican Women, Elois Zeanah, said, concerning proposals being batted about in news articles by the Attorney General, Governor, and Legislators to change the immigration law.  These proposals, according to Zeanah, would weaken and ultimately destroy the bill.

Among the repeals the Attorney General is asking Legislators to make, Zeanah said, is the requirement that illegal aliens must show proof of citizenship to register to vote.  "Luther Strange must be the only Republican in the State to not support this," she said.  She has written a critique of the many repeals the Attorney General is suggesting.  These are available upon request.  Her email is eloisz@hotmail.com.

"Alabama politicians should cease and desist from scaring the public during Christmastime, which is supposed to be a time of peace, praise, and sharing.  They need to stop saying 'bah, humbug' to the Alabama immigration law and stay true to their promises to their constituents.  They need to celebrate Christmas and not consider making any of the Attorney General's proposed changes, which drastically weaken our Alabama law, until after the U.S. Supreme Court rules on the Arizona immigration lawsuit, which will directly impact Alabama's law," Zeanah said.

According to Zeanah, the Attorney General's recommendations remind her of the Biblical story of Samson, whose strength was lost when Delilah discovered the secret of Samson's strength and cut his hair.  "The proposed repeals would cut the strengths from our immigration bill," she said. "The Attorney General ran a campaign on being tough against illegal immigration, yet his recommendations would practically nullify this law."
